Topology Dress at Voxelworld
Topology Dress detail
Topology dress
The Topology dress was inspired by the geometric lines used in 3D modelling. Topology refers to the surface characteristics of a digital mesh. By wearing this dress, the model herself becomes a 3D form with the pattern of the dress defining her figure.

process
The Topology dress started with traditional methods, drafting a muslin pattern for the base silhouette and then scanning each piece to map out the grid lines in Illustrator. After the design was complete, the lines were translated into 3D forms in Autodesk Maya. The models were then individually 3D printed in black flexible TPU filament on red spandex mesh. The fabric was stretched over the printbed and when printed onto, created a raised texture. After printing, each piece was appliqued by hand onto the final garment.
